Chocolate flavor? Let's avoid this triviality and move to spices, one of the best ways to make your cake flavorful. Spice cake is a cake made with a lot of really warm, cozy spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves that are typically enjoyed during the fall and winter months. Spice cake is for you if you're into warm and cozy.

Moreover, its dense and moist base doesn't require standard frosting. Because when made right, awesome moist spice cake doesn't need a swipe of frosting. Here the cream cheese frosting comes into play. Before you start enjoying your cooking time, catch a few life hacks on how this sweet culinary masterpiece:

  • It can be double-wrapped in plastic a day ahead. Also, the batter can be divided and baked in two 8-inch square cake pans. It opens the option to take one small cake on the picnic. Or freeze another later, as it can be stored for up to 5 days.
  • Wrap a 15x10-inch piece of cardboard with colorful foil wrapping paper to make a decorative but at the same time disposable serving platter for the cake.
  • Look for fruit-punch-flavored fruit roll snacks in motley colors to create multi-hued mums.

  2. 2

Mix the flour, salt, baking powder, soda, cinnamon, and other spices in a large bowl. Set aside.

  3. 3

Whisk the oil, eggs, brown sugar, applesauce, vanilla extract, and molasses (if using) together in a medium bowl. Whisk wet and dry ingredients until combined. Add in the shredded apple.

  4. 4

Spread batter into the prepared pan, then start baking for 50 minutes. Baking time varies, so keep an eye on yours. The cake is made when a toothpick inserted in the center comes clean.

  5. 5

Remove the cake from the oven and set it on a wire rack. Allow cooling completely. After about 45 minutes, place it in the fridge to speed things up.

  6. 6

    Now let's make the frosting:

  7. 7

In a large bowl, beat the butter and cream cheese with the mixer or blender on high speed until smooth and creamy.

  8. 8

Add confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.

  9. 9

Beat on low speed for half a minute, then switch to the highest speed and beat for 2 minutes.

  10. 10

Add the extra of confectioners sugar to make the frosting a little thicker. Spread the frosting on the cooled cake. Refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving. It helps set the frosting and makes cutting easier. Decorate your cake with nuts, dried fruits or honey.
