Verguni is a traditional Ukrainian delicacy. Verguns started cooking in Ukraine a very long time ago. This is not an intricate dish, very simple, but at the same time it has a wonderful aroma and taste. Verguns are nothing more than a piece of sweet dough fried in a large amount of oil or butter.
Kefir 2.5%
100 g (1 cup)
Wheat flour
180 g (1 cup)
Eggs
20 g (½ pieces)
Salt
5 g (½ tsp)
Sugar
30 g (1 cup)
Baking soda
5 g (½ tsp)
Butter 82.5%
30 g (1 tsp)
Powdered sugar (sifted)
5 g (½ cup)
1
The dough is ready in 5-10 minutes. We take sugar, salt and egg, mix. Pour in kefir, mix.
2
Add soda, then vegetable oil and mix again. A reaction occurs, the soda is quenched with kefir and the mass begins to bubble
3
Now sift the flour. With a spoon, and then with your hands, knead the dough. The dough should be slightly sticky, soft and not tough.
4
Cover with the bowl in which the dough was kneaded and let it rest for about 20 minutes.
5
Then we roll out the dough into a layer up to 1 cm thick, cut into rhombuses. We make an incision in the middle of each rhombus. We turn one edge of the dough through the incision.
6
We put our verguns in a pan with oil. They fry quickly - about 1 minute on each side.
7
Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired. Bon appetit!
Verguni is a very unique dish. If the dough is rolled out very thin and fried in oil, they will be crispy. But, if, however, the dough is left residually thick, then almost the buns will turn out.
The verguns on kefir are distinguished by the increased splendor of the product and belonging specifically to Ukrainian cuisine. Delicious, satisfying and very appetizing, it will be a great dessert for children and adults!
